Initial Connection

We'll begin by scheduling a meeting—either in person or virtually—so we can get to know your child and better understand your goals for tutoring. This initial conversation helps ensure that our sessions are personalized and aligned with your child’s needs. This will also be the time when we set up a Meet & Greet and the start date of sessions.

Contract

Before our first session, you'll receive a contract via email to review, sign, and return. The contract outlines important policies, including scheduling, cancellations, and permissions for teachers to share assessments and relevant information about your child. This ensures clear communication and a smooth start to our work together.

Meet & Greet

This is a valuable opportunity for your child to meet me in a safe and comfortable environment. If they are in school, we can coordinate with their teacher for a classroom visit, or we can arrange to meet in a public location during the summer. A home visit is also an option if that feels best. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs reminds us that children must first feel safe, supported, and connected before they can progress in confidence, achievement, and growth. That’s why we prioritize building a strong relationship, knowing it is essential to your child’s success. In short, for your child to be motivated and ready to learn, they must first feel safe, supported, and connected. We deeply value the relationship we build together, and we know how essential that connection is to your child’s success.

Schedule

cheduling the first session with Via Literacy is an important step in beginning your child’s learning journey. Families can choose to arrange this visit in the comfort of their home, creating a familiar and relaxed setting. Once scheduled, the session focuses on building rapport, helping the child feel at ease, and gently assessing current reading skills. This initial visit lays the foundation for a personalized learning plan and ensures that the child feels safe, supported, and ready to grow.

Feel Good Notes From Parents and Specialists

“Beyond being a creative and caring mentor, Alex has a broad and deep knowledge of reading intervention strategies. My son has an atypical learning profile, working through some aspects of language arts with relative ease and struggling through others, and Alex has adjusted and tweaked both long- and short-term strategies to meet his unique needs. He is currently reading at grade level, and I am confident he got there through a combination of his and Alex’s hard work.”

Parent

“I worked with Alex as a fellow teacher when she was in the classroom, and now as she works with several of my students. Alex is always eager to connect and work as a team to provide the best support for the children she tutors.

Alex uses research based programs and strategies to address children’s specific needs. Alex is herself a life-long learner and often pops in to share new strategies or resources she discovers. It is clear that teaching reading is her true passion, and she has developed a wide skill base to help children succeed.”

Teacher

“First and foremost, I cannot express enough what a kind and compassionate person Alex is.  It is evident she pours her heart into her students coming up with fun activities and challenges to keep them eagerly engaged. My daughter has been visiting weekly with Alex for over two years now and she continues to love the sessions.  At times when other things were on my daughter’s mind, Alex also provided a safe space for her to share.  She has really become a great friend to Peyton and to our family.  I feel great knowing my daughter’s success in school is fostered by her time with Alex.”

Parent

“During our time working with Alex, she felt like another adult on my daughter's team. Alex and I communicated regularly and she even met with my daughter's teachers to get a better understanding of how my daughter experienced school. Alex’s goal is for her students to have a positive and successful time at school. She also works hard at having every student leave a session feeling seen, confident, and proud of their accomplishments!”
